Fandom:SGA
Pairing: Mckay/Sheppard
Summary: This was all Jeannie's fault. She was always putting these ideas in Rodney's head. About settling down and starting a family and how he could have this. Should want to have this!

This was all Jeannie's fault. She was always putting these ideas in Rodney's head. About settling down and starting a family and how he could have this. Should want to have this! And Rodney sucked it all up. Never taking a moment to consider if marriage was something he actually wanted.
John knew Rodney had a tendency to mold his personal life on a kind of seventies sitcom ideal. Sticking to the textbook of human relationships to find his way through the messy ocean of human connection that he was clearly adrift in.

So he'd found himself a pretty blond, with a good head on her shoulders, who'd probably be willing bear him some kids at some point. And the fact that Keller was so damn sweet, made it even worse. She was easy to like. Easy to love even. She certainly seemed to like Rodney.
Why shouldn't he want to marry her?

Sheppard stared at the ring Rodney was showing him and couldn't come up with a single damn reason.

The expectant look on Rodney's face faltered and died and John cringed at what must be showing on his own. "What? You think she'll say no? Or... is it to soon? Do you think I should wait?" Trusting his judgment, as if Sheppard was any good at personal relationships.
And right there was his out. He could just agree Rodney should wait and hope the romance would die out in its own time. But the words were stuck in his throat.

Rodney hesitated, a flurry of emotions flying over his face, as he drew his own conclusions. "You think I'll screw it up." Again he didn't add. His chin tilted defensively.

"I'd marry you!" John said just before Rodney crossed the threshold into the hallway. He flushed under Rodney's incredulous stare. "I mean, I didn't really enjoy it the first time around and I don't know if you... I'd say yes. If it means that much to you."

"What are you saying?" Rodney stepped back into the room, the door sliding shut behind him.

"I'd say yes, if you asked." Sheppard repeated shakily. "Although I think maybe we should date first."

Rodney was suddenly in his personal space, pulling even closer and Sheppard knew he'd been right about his own muddled feelings at least, when he realized he didn't feel crowded at all.
"I think we've been dating for years." Rodney muttered and kissed him
