My, my, he really is a NEW NEW doctor
May. 7th, 2006 10:46 amWarning, spoilers for Doctor who S2,
The girl in the fireplace
Today I'm not gonna be gushing about the main plot, which was charming, touching, exiting and fun as hell. Instead I wanna discuss the fact that the doctor; Left Rose (and Mickey) stranded on a broken down, deserted spaceship, 3000 years from home to go off and rescue his honey in the eighteenth century!!!
Quite a difference from nine, who was so dependent on his companion that he would frequently risk the world and his own well being just to keep her safe. This is a new new doctor after all.
Of course the dynamic has been different all season. Gone is the deep commitment between two people, replaced by the friendship of two kids fooling around. And just like on the schoolyard, loyalties can change at any time. At least from the docs point of view.
That look on Rose's face when he finnally found a way back after five and half hours only to turn right around and head back through the fireplace without sparing her a moment of time.
And it's very telling that she didn't even try to talk to him at the end of the adventure.
Maybe he's decided to create more distance after last weeks remainder that companions come and go, or maybe he truly just did find a better playmate. I'm sure there will be some fallout from the changing relationship. Especially now that Mickey is around and starting to rise to Roses level.
So far the doctor has been a bit arrogant (well he has) and reckless. Something tells me someone is going to be paying for that this season and I doubt it'll be him.

Date: 2006-05-08 10:21 pm (UTC)She seems to have really grown up this series. When she was explaining about how time travel works etc. I think that's why they have more Mickey in this series, they need someone to be impressed with things, like Rose was in series one.
