let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Nov. 26th, 2005 10:54 amHappy Thanksgiving to all yanks! I would have said so yesterday, but I got stuck in traffic...
Yes all day.
The whole of Holland got stuck in total grid-lock, on account of some absolutely insane weather (probably not by standards set around the globe, but man were we unequipped to deal with it ;) We're talking rain, lightning strikes, falling branches, tipped trucks sometimes stuck on the train tracks! And then there was the snow...
Left early yesterday at 12 'o clock, cuz I had planned to go see the new Harry Potter flick with my family. I finally arrived at home at ten in the evening! That's ten hours of traveling for a journey that normally takes under two hours! At one point I had to jump out of a train and walk the remaining half hour to the next station!!!
Lucky I did too since otherwise I would have been stuck halfway across the country at this time. Now I not only managed to get to Apeldoorn station, I even managed to find two connecting trains and a final ride home with my dad, who bravely put up with four hours in traffic to get me there, meaning I got to sleep in my own bed tonight. Opposed to those hundreds of travelers who ended up in emergency shelters across the country.
And those thousands of travelers who spend about 24 hours not moving any while the freeway snowed up around them!
Great fun all around really, up until the point where my feet started to go painfully numb because I'd been wading through thick layers of snow and ice water and my wintercoat got drenched!
So lots of love all around to the people just turning in now! And especially to all the people I laughed and commiserated with on the long way home yesterday! Let's do it again sometime ;)
And now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go build a snowman...
