So uhm... what's an abstract? In the fanart sense?

SGA big bang is driving me to despair. I've got one scene art piece done and I'm fairly happy about it (today at any rate). But it only touches on like 1% percent of the story (seriously so much going on!). I want to do something coverish for my second piece. I've got several ideas in wip stage and I want to run with one of them, but time is running out and I need to decide which one I can do in the (OMG so) little time that is left.

I can't speak from direct experience since I've never tried to create art to represent or accompany someone else's writing. But I have written brief summaries of other people's writing, & I've written bios for a couple of friends. Both of those involve trying to fairly represent a very complicated topic in much-too-little space, so they may be similar.

First of all, you just can't represent everything going on in a Big Bang story, or even all the major themes, if for no other reason than every reader will approach the story from a different background & will therefore see different things in it & end up with different impressions. What you can give is art which reflects your POV, which both touches on some theme or event or characters in the story and shows something you noticed or felt or "got" from it/them. For this reason I recommend going with whatever WIP idea you like best or feel the most attracted to/passionate about--that one is likely to result in the clearest statement of your viewpoint.

I hope this makes at least a little sense? For example, when I agreed to write a bio of a very dear Friend whom I'd known for many years, I was overwhelmed because she's so talented & multi-faceted. I couldn't decide on which elements to mention, or figure out how to stop gushing "OMG, she's so wonderful!" & express myself in a way that showed her wonderfulness. I finally just made myself pick 3 of her "aspects of wonderfulness" & began writing factually about those. As I wrote I realized I could shift the focus of the bio a little by writing about how my Friend helped other people experience sheer, childlike Wonder--a trait & talent I hadn't even considered at first. The actual techniques of writing for my audience helped me decide on the overall organization of the piece. The final bio didn't turn out quite like the outline, but I think my original feelings played a big part in it....

Good luck, & I'm looking forward to seeing your Big Bang reveal!

I'm so glad something I wrote was useful! I'm confident your idea will turn out great.

I'm thinking of you, slaving away over a hot sketchpad/canvas/monitor, & wishing you great creativity & satisfaction & success (with BB art & the rest of your life too) in the New Year. Bright Blessings....
