Congratulations Norway! I didn't watch out of general aggressive feelings towards Russia and their gay bashing government, but it's a cute song.

EDIT: Wow, this song really does stick in an incredible way.

I've been suffering from a nasty bitter taste in my mouth, that makes even the most delicious of foods seem gross, for a week now. Naturally my first thought was: CANCER. But as it turns out this is a well known phenomenon that is caused by eating Chinese pine nuts... which I kept doing until yesterday. And the messed up taste thing can last up to 2 weeks. Thank you China. Feel free to stop sending us crap products now.

But seriously; We castrate little piglets en masse without tranquilizers, because some of them might smell bad, but this shit makes the shelves of my supermarket? No wonder PETA is so pissed all the time.

It's interesting, lately whenever I go googling for stuff like gayness, feminism or whatnot I end up on this Dutch/Maroccan forum.
While a lot (but not all of them) tend to be awfully conservative from my point of view I find it interesting to see how they try to fit Dutch society with Islam. We talk so much about muslims, but we rarely listen, unless it's the extremists talking.

I was reading about parents that don't realize their 12 year old is chatting with pedophiles and I wondered if our generation would be better prepared to keep our children safe. At the very least we're far more Internet savvy then our own parents. I know how to check the browser history at any rate. I know about passwords. Hell I even know about keystroke logging (although that might be crossing the line between protection and privacy).

It also got me wondering about my own experiences. Did I see stuff I wasn't ready to see? Probably not, but those were different times. I didn't really get into the interwebz until I was 16 and I mostly used it to look up Buffy stuff (although there was one incident in a sex chatroom a couple of years before that, which was terribly exiting. Not unlike making prank calls to sex lines. I wonder if they warned parents about that :)

My first forays into Fandom was Buffy. It took me a while longer to discover this thing called fanfiction and some time longer I'm sure, to discover slash. I didn't start reading Xanderfic (which is mostly porn or worse; mysogonic crap) until season 4, which made me about ninteen anyhow.
My sister was a neo hippy with gay friends and my parents are wonderfully liberal, so all that had been part of my accepted World view since I was thirteen. It looks like I reached adulthood, innocence firmly intact (and quite probably a lot more innocent then most kids that age).

Did fanfiction skew my views on sexuality? I think it did, but mostly it made me more open minded about sex and relationships (especially Glt), without actually making me want to try out all of it for myself. (I won't be doing no sado scenes, unless I'm the one holding the whip ;)

Did fanfiction make me bi? Well, if it did, thats alright. I suspect my underlying distrust of men has more to do with the extremely volitile relationship I had with my brother growing up though.

Hmmm

I don't know what I was thinking limiting this to 5, but here's the rulez:

Pick the top 5 fics that have made a deep, unending impact on you. It can be something that made you cry, angry or happy. Just so long as it's something that really stuck!

1) Retrograde by Martha Wilson.
The fic that got me into SGA fandom. She might have quite unreasonably stopped after ONLY 16 installments, but in my head this verse never stopped.

2) A dish served cold by Kevin H. Robnet
I used to be in trek fandom and I used to be in Highlander and above all I used to be into crossovers. And dish served cold is the best of both Worlds. A clan denial story where Richie Ryan has a falling out with his mentor after he decides that instead of cutting of people's heads, he'd rather found starfleet. It's the kind of premise that can only transcend it's sillyness if you take it really, really seriously. And Robnet does.
I still consider this one of the most beloved stories even though I've kissed both fandoms goodby.

3) Break the day by Ecolea
This fic isn't going to be for everybody. After 9/11 there was a Spiderman issue that featured Marvel heroes pulling people out of the rubble. This story is a little like that. Using Methos as a trope to describe what happened. I figure the author just had to give it a place even if that place happened to be in a piece of highlander fanfic.Whatever she was thinking, for me it always instantly recalls that feeling when I turned on my tv and watched the planes fly into the towers.

4) Stuck by Kolyaaa!
Stuck just works for me. It pulls on my heartstrings in all the right ways. Reading it is like riding a roller-coaster. Some of Astolats stories do that for me as well, but this is deliciously long and perfect for when I want to kick back and get some instant emotional gratification in small doses. I love me some cliches and Kidfic where Rodney is the kid; WIN!

5)  Logical solutions to inlogical situations by Sardonicsmiley
Yes, despite the major flounce this is still one of my all time favorites. Cuz the truth is, like Atlantis in this story, I also think Rodney Mckay is like a maltreated fluffy kitten and I just want to tuck him to my bosom and make it all better.

I could keep going. I want to keep going and share all the stories I love. Picking a top 5 was agonizing and there are stories that should have gotten a shared ranking, but thems the rules and I decided to stick with them.

If you read this Meme; Copy and share your own recs.

SGU will have gay characters!

And looking at the reactions to that on Gateworld, I'd say it's needed desperately.

“I don’t hate gays, just their practice and way of life.”
“If you want lesbians they have plenty of websites that you can go to”
“if i wanted to watch lesbians i would watch porn simple”
“What it the sole purpose of sex? To have a baby”

And of course:

Why the Hell do people insist on talking about gays, bringing it up and shoving in our faces. This little article does just that. I find it insulting it is taking up space and in my face. Is there some need for it to be pushed on us?

Dude you are the epitome of people who need to have it shoved in their face, so maybe you'll get a clue.

Mood: Elated yet sad.

Edit: Also; This dreamwith thing... What's the deal with that? You have to pay for it? (I realize a lot of people pay for LJ as well, but I like my internetz to come free of charge)

Driver kills four in attack on Dutch royal family at public parade

God. I don't have words. At least it looks like the royal family didn't have the kids with them, (but there must have been countless of children in the crowd).

Edit: Three of the injured are children.

Hmmm. It's come to my attention that I'm not following LJ etiquette. Which is fitting since I pretty much fail in RL etiquette as well.

1) Apparently it's rude not to friend someone back if they friend you.
Okay here's the thing. I'll friend you if they say something interesting or post good fic. Since I don't really do either of those things I'm always amazed to see that I've been friended back. Just so you know I won't hold it against anyone if they don't friend me back. (That's not to say I'm not delighted to have you guy's in my Flist :).

2) Comment on fic.
I try to do that pretty consistently, but if I'm finishing up at 2 in the morning, you're shit out of luck. But I love you for writing anyway.

3) Read your Friends list.
Confession; I rarely do this. I check in with my regular coms and I haunt my myriad of delicious networks. That gets me a bunch of fic recs a day and from there I'll spread out and work my way back through your journal. Or I'll do the same when I reread your fic from my Delicious account (which I do more often then you might think). So if I'm leaving comments on all the charming things you've written weeks ago... it's cuz I'm using the internetzz wrong. (okay fine, it's because I've managed to turn my Flist in to community spam box and like my previous email inboxes, I'll do anything to avoid cleaning it up)

4) SGA kicks MERLIN's BUTT!
    There I've said it.

Good deed of the day; Allerting the Dutch Abortion information site that the website of one of their listed abortion clinics (and they do mean abortion clinics), had been replaced with a link page to; a pro-life organisation, baby yoga, pregnancy gifts and pretty much everthing else to do with babies except abortion! Curious for a site called; Abortusinfo.nl, to say the least.

Not in my fucking country, you bastards.

I am so sick of those people who are preaching on one hand the evils of Muslims, who force their wives and daughters to cover up, and then turn around to defile muslim women for wearing a Burkini instead of a Western bathing suit (and calling on pools to ban them).

Someone please explain to me why a Muslim women who isn't allowed outside by her husband unless she wears a headscarf is repressed, while a Muslim women who's not allowed into a pool unless she's wearing a Western Bikini is freed.

How about we give those women the choice to dress however they want and actually mean it for a change?

I've written a little something for [livejournal.com profile] john_farr
If you haven't been following John_farr. It's a SGA AU where all Earthlings have a mating cycle thanks to the Goa'uld. John is either: frigid, fucked up or both and Rodney is the SGC bicycle, because he hapens to be compatible with EVERYBODY and not having sex during your cycle can cause psychoses.

The chronological story so far is here (not entirely up to date, since its hard to keep up with the authors)

Title: Something pretentious
Author: Korilian
Pairing: Rodney/various ppl. Siler/Sarkozy
Ratings/Warnings: nothing saucy.
Word count: 2700+
Summary: Rodney sometimes thought that people were starting to get a little blasé about the whole thing.
Timeline: This takes place right before Won’t let go We know why Elizabeth fought to get Rodney (possibly ;), but why did the SGC relent?
AN: I like Keller honestly. If she comes across a little callous it's because, in 'A Burning thing', she struck me as someone who's far to cheerful about the whole thing :).

korilian: (Teyla/Rodney)

Yes I'm just as pissed as everyone that they cancelled SGA. But just in case people hadn't quite grasped the potential of Stargate Universe yet, allow me to demonstrate:

Mind they had ME at Richie Ryan IN SPACE!

I won the Art challenge of the month February over at [livejournal.com profile] hp_fringeart , which not only came with this awesome banner, but as it turns out an actual prize!! Whoohoo!

I'm am completely sold on Stargate Universe! They've cast Mulan and  Black canary!

Dollhouse has finally arrived. The pilot hasn't managed to turn me into a rabit fan, but then again, the Buffy pilot wasn't that spectacular. And God knows Firefly's pilot (or that bland, generic ep they aired in its place) wasn't anything to write home about.

I'll give it a season if the Network will.
korilian: (Theodora)
Hahaha! Oh LJ. You really are run by Russians.

I have a sponsored account, with the commercials and stuff (and not nearly as many icons as I'd like). Now you do have some choice on the type of banners you get, so I can't help wonder, what interest you have to tag to get a commercial for Ukranian mail order brides...

I'm rather taken with Виктория. I'm sure could have something really special once I figure out how to er... pronounce her name.

Last of the mermaid series. Original this time. This one was mostly an exercise in coloring (though it was wonderful to get back to drawing girls. I must figure out anti-aliasing though.

Some more fanart. I really can't get enough of Mermaids. It's a thing.

For Shadow over Atlantis by Le Chatte Noir, which I love to death and hope will be updated soon. Cthulhu Mckay.

Clicky for blow out.

korilian: (Default)
It's always a blow when fandom fails me. I still remember my crushing disappointment (and disbelief, cuz come on, it's totally canon you guys!) when I found out there was no Psychic Greg fic in CSI fandom. And now it's starting to look like no one wanted to play with Larry Tolson; Sanctuary Psychopath, who wanders around axe murdering people for sapping his psychic energy (or something). I realize he only got a 30 second part, but he's played by David Hewlett!

I want Tolson fic! *snif*
